Shae Makes Signature Salad

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

I can’t think of a more perfect dish than this salad to be my first official signature dish. What exactly is a signature dish? According to Wikipedia a signature dish is a recipe that identifies an individual chef or restaurant. Ideally it should be unique and allow an informed gastronome to name the chef in a blind tasting. It can be thought of as the culinary equivalent of an artist finding their own style, or an author finding their own voice. This salad is me on a plate. A little bit of savory, a little bit of sweet. It is my go to side dish, my go to potluck salad and quite frankly my favorite salad of all time.

I created this salad randomly one night when I needed to throw a quick side dish together to go with our steaks I had grilled. I looked around in my pantry and grabbed a few random ingredients and then went to the fridge and grabbed a few more. My steak loving husband claimed this salad to be his favorite part of the entire meal!!

Now you’re probably wondering what is in my signature salad at this point. Well it starts with a mix of red leaf lettuce and arugula and then its topped with dried cranberries, crispy french onions, sliced green onions, chopped tomatoes, sliced cucumbers and sliced hard boiled eggs. I told you it was RANDOM! Then its dressed with ranch dressing (use your favorite store bought brand when you’re in a pinch, my favorite that I use more often then homemade is this brand or you can use a homemade ranch recipe like this one. It is unexpected but absolutely freaking delicious. On occasion I like to throw some chopped rib eye steak on top of this salad and make it into a full meal. Give it a try next time you are looking for a yummy salad!

Tips & Tricks:

  • This is a very basic recipe so obviously its kind of hard to mess up! The only caveat to this recipe is that there are no measurements for the salad ingredients. You’ll want to make however much you’ll want depending on how many people you are serving. You’ll want a large base of red leaf lettuce + arugula and then you will top the salad with equal parts of all the salad toppings. I always just eyeball it and will measure it by picking a salad bowl or large aluminum casserole dish according to how many people I’m feeding and then fill the bowl accordingly.
  • The most important tip for this recipe is finding a really good store bought ranch dressing. Like I mentioned above, my favorite store bought brand of ranch is this one, found at my local Lee’s Marketplace.

Description

The worlds best salad! Red leaf lettuce and arugula topped with dried cranberries, green onions, tomatoes, crispy french onions, cucumbers and hard boiled eggs and drizzled with a creamy ranch dressing.

Ingredients

  • Red leaf lettuce
  • Arugula
  • Green onions, sliced
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Crispy French Onions
  • Sliced Cucumbers
  • Sliced Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Store bought Ranch Dressing like this one or a homemade ranch like this one
  • Optional: Chopped Rib Eye Steak

Instructions

  1. You’ll notice that there are no measurements for this salad. That’s because you are going to make however much you need according to how many people you are serving.
  2. If you are serving 2 people, grab a large cereal bowl and fill it with equal parts arugula and red leaf lettuce and then top it with equal parts of all of the salad toppings and drizzle with the ranch dressing. If you are serving it for a potluck with 12+ people, grab a large 9×13 aluminum disposable casserole dish and fill it with your arugula and red leaf lettuce and then top it with equal parts of all of the salad toppings.
  3. Right before serving, drizzle the salad with ranch dressing and toss it until everything is coated and serve immediately.

Happy anniversary to my ride or die and my best fr Happy anniversary to my ride or die and my best friend @zackmemmott ❤️❤️❤️

I could write a novel about how great he is but I’ll try and keep it short. He’s an incredible father, he’s the most charitable person I know, he let’s me sleep in with the baby on the daily while he gets up with the older kids, he’s hilarious, he takes me all over the world and he works so incredibly hard to give us this amazing life we are so blessed to live.

I took this picture of him at dinner tonight in Maui and it is my new favorite! ILY babe 🤟🏼here’s to many more anniversaries spent in Hawaii 😉
